2000 Bonneville SSEI
My 2000 Bonneville SSEI keeps shutting off. The battery light comes on, I have to wait until it cools after about 1 hour then it will start.
Had new battery installed, just has all sensors checked and replaced bad ones, car will drive a few blocks (or just one) then it starts to move very slowly and I hear click, click then it shuts off. Please help me!! Was on my way to work this morning and it happened again, car was in shop and just got it back two weeks ago.

Please check your connections to the battery, make sure they are tight and not corroded. If that looks good, please ensure your battery is charged and have your battery/alternator tested.
You can test yourself with a multimeter. You should get about 12.9V at the battery with the car off (less than 12 and your battery is likely bad or not properly charged), and about 14V+ with the engine running (otherwise you have a bad connection or alternator).

When it shuts off and won't start, check to see if any of the spark plugs are getting spark. I agree with Justin on the ignition control module or the crankshaft position sensor.
I think Roy and Justin are likely tracking where I would first look. If you do want to look at the battery/ alternator, you may want to look at the side post contact to the battery. On occasion, the side post will break INSIDE the battery and make intermittent connections. The alternator should be running, so it doesn't make sense- but it is something to check and will only take a few minutes (wiggle the battery cable) under the back seat where it connects to the battery.

i don't think this is a battery issue, but just to clarify, when it won't start does the engine turn over when you are trying to start it, or not. Or, when you try to start it, do you just hear some clicks and that'* it?
Roy
It will start up sometimes with no problem, then drive a little then it starts to slow down and I hear the click, click before it completely dies on me.
If I sit for awhile it will (sometimes) start up again then drive a little further (a few block) then start to slow again and I hear the click, click and I know it is coming that it will die on me.
Also something very strange is the lights on the panel get very dim and the windows will have trouble rolling down or up, this one way also that I can tell that even if it does completely start up, it will soon die.
Any suggestions?
