Do you take a sample and send off for analysis prior to the change?
What wjcollier is saying is parshally true. I take mine without draining....What'* the real point of doing it, then finding out you could have made that interval longer, and throwing out perfectly decent, useable oil?

I have a pump with a hose that can go down the dipstick tube and pull samples right from the pan, some what mess free (nothing with diesel'* are mess free lol), puts it right into a jar and off to http://www.oaitesting.com it goes. Usually only need about 4-5 oz for a good sample.

Costs about $20 or so, for a postage paid kit, which if you're interested, I can get it for you.....Here'* what I use to do mine:

Here'* the Sampling kit that I use.

I have a Fumoto valve and it works well to take a sample.

Sorry to get off topic.

Oil Analysis are a worthwhile investment to keep track of your engines wear. Blackstone Labs just went up to $22.50 about two months age.
