common oil leaks?
i'm almost done with my bonne'* mid-life maintenance..next up is oil leakage...i know my pan is leaking as well as my valve covers...is there any other common oil leaks i should check for?...I seem to drop the most oil on the belt side of the engine(could be from the pan) but i cant figure out where it could be leaking over there...any idea'*?

Mine likes a small amount on were the tranny and the engine meet ,but enough to change the oil level any noticable amount of 3000 miles. That would be kind of pain to fix. Vaule covers are easy to do.

Valve Covers and Oil pan gaskets are common on the series II engines as well some end up with a leaking rear main on the series II'*.. I have been lucky in that department so far...
On the oil pan gasket, does your car have the cast alluminum pan or the stamped steel pan?

I'll definatly check the timing cover as well..i dont think its the engine/tranny gasket..though i did have to have the tranny-axle boot replaced about a year ago..

When you look under the car is the pan Black as in painted black? If it is it should be the stamped steel pan... The gasket is interesting, and I think you will need to remove the pil sump screen to remove it...

97 is stamped steel
When you go to do the pan.. get some GM engine sealer..use that.. I did my gasket and still have leaks.. Now I got some sealer..and doubt I'll have any leakage..

Thats strange... I pulled my oil pan to knock out a nice dent... And reused the gasket/windage tray and its still bone dry
