wont start again after driving +more problems

new to the forum,thanks.
I have a problem driving me so crazy i am about ready to give up and sell it but i love her soo much.this used to happen every so often, but now, everyday. ive had her for a year.

1. first time in one day she starts fine. ill drive and stop somewhere, then when i go to start her back up,sometimes it starts, sometimes it wont. what i get is the the engine cranking but not firing. it could go for five "trips" and not do this, or only one.

2.whenever i start it and it does fire, it will either fire rough and then run fine, fire smooth and get a "check engine" and run rough, or fire rough, get a "check engine" and a "traction off" then run rough.

mechanics don't know what to do because he thought it was the fuel pump (we replaced it,nothing) or the ignition control module (nothing again).this is getting expensive and im terrified of taking it to the dealer.

other problems...
my little keypad that unlocks it got washed and wont work,so i bought a new one (yet still to figure out how to program it),the car randomly dies when driving (although im comvinced its a short from when we installed the new stereo, never did it before that)

what i dont get is that it did this when we bought it used last august, but not often at all, almost as if only when it was really hot outside, and now it does it everyday.
:bhang:
ive been reading the posts and decided its probably not the VATS because the security light turns off after i start it.could it be the crank shaft sensor?
thanks for your time all,
Kell

could be the cam sensor, since the car dies while driving...

The car will run if the cam sensor has a loss of signal... It will start and it will run, not always great...

My money is on the crank sensor...

But the first anf foremost thing you need to do is have the codes pulled from the cars computer.... If the Check engine light has come on the computer will have a code or codes stored in memory... we need to know what that code is to help send you in the right direction..

Without having any idea what the code is we are all taking guesses ;)

You can buy an el cheapo scanner at Kragen's, Pep boys, etc. for about $80. I did, and they're worth it.

As for reprogramming the key fob, search Google and you'll find a number of sites that explain how to do it. Maybe even some of the auctions for keyfobs on e-bay.

The fob reprogramming instructions are right here in techinfo. I reprogrammed one in the parking lot at work one day.

Or actually lot stores like autozone will pull the codes for with out have to buy the scanner.one thing to check is the battery termianl make sure theirar tight. I know sounds stupid but I had corsica do the same thing

Another vote for Crank Sensor here. I had the exact same problem and it turned out to be the crank sensor. It's a $27 part at Autozone, but you need to pull the balancer to change it. I was lazy so I paid a local garage $80 to do the swap.

:D
crank sensor it was!! no more "not starting" no more check engine light/traction off, no more dying!! we found an extra problem too...a wireconnecting the amp in the trunk going to the battery touched my frame and shorted my ground wire!! so were are all up and running and happy as ever!!

thanks so much guys, peace is restored!!!

Actually the amp is under the radio....but who's counting. Glad to see everything worked out for ya. These 95's are great cars ;)

Last quite a while too....I'm at 208.500 something right now ;)
