Over the past few days it'* been biterly cold in MI. Perfect time to test out another theory on this nusance (sorry Bill, I just can't accept what you suggest...I firmly believe the Rs should come down on their own!).

SEEBonnie.... Try this. Before you start the car on a cold morning, put the HVAC selector on the Floor and Defrost setting.

After 2-4 minutes of high reving at 1500 RPM, the RPMs dropped to 950 RPMs in my 99. This is the only way I've determined to "force" the engine to drop the RPMs.

Just wanted to chime in....my 97 se does the same thing...great for getting out of snowbanks...the guys at work thought I wasnt going to get out of this huge plow-in...started her up...put her in drive....i idled right out of it...they thought i needed 4 wheel drive! LOL@@ PS....I dont let mine idle too long in the morning...no good for the valve train in my opinion...you can really hear the cam and lifters in the am..

Yes, I agree. The lifter clatter is much louder when it'* pegged at 1500 RPMs. It eats away at me when I hear it running at a solid 1500 RPMs. Try my theory and see if that helps. It was a shot in the dark at something that SSEBONNIE and I have been dealing with for a while...

My 1996 Bonnie SE does the exact same thing regardless of start temperature. Starts at 1500 and after a minute if i give it some gas or put it into gear it will come down to 900. The mechanic said it was my Throttle Positioning Sensor. They replaced that and it didn't fix it. Cost me a few dollars though. Thats the last time I go to an Active Green and Ross for work.

I think we're on to something here...
