Right, thats part of the light. Mine came with that, and the new ones also came with that black strip. I couldnt live without it now

The black strip is just a cushion/gasket between the light and the body. It will not make the clearing any harder, because the OEM ones have it.

But, there is some sort of soft metal framework to it. If you bend it out of shape too bad, it'* kinda difficult to get it back to its original shape.
