Just checked with the parts guy here at work - the part numbers for the two alternators are different. I'm still going to try though.

I just did a little research for you...

On the SSEi the alternator has 2 ears to bolt the alt to the bracket.... The SE/SLE NA, has 3 ears with the bottom being the longest to help support the alternator..

AC Delco #'*

1995 SSEi 334-2445

97 SE 334-2457

95 SE 321-1093

You may be able to make the SSEi alt work, but I am not sure how strong the rear alt bracket will be without the support of the lower ear on the 97'* alt

Good Luck
Yeah..this is exactly what I ran in to. I'll just tell the guy the alternator needs to be greased.

Just tell him the truth. I prefer to buy a car from someone who'* willing to tell me what needs attention than someone who says the car needs nothing.

Okay, well I'll tell him it needs a new alternator and offer him $120 back.

That sounds better to me. When buying a used car you're checking out the car & the seller. If the seller says 1 thing that sounds like BS I figure he would say anything to make a sale. I'd just tell him about the noise, when it happens & you think it may be the alt. Let him make an offer before lowering the price.
