Default why is my factory alarm system going off?!?!?!

i was heading back home very early this morning and felt wayyyy too tired to drive. i was afraid i'd ditch the car so i decided to get some shut eye at a rest stop in the middle of nowhere.

so i hop in the back seat, lock the doors, and fall asleep....

two hours later i wake up and open the rear door and BAM ! my horn is going off every second, headlights are flashing, ughhhh RUDE AWAKEING

i'm barely awake at this point, so i hop in the driver'* seat and start the car and expect the alarm to stop....well it didn't . so i start driving away from the rest area with my horn blaring and lights flashing (headlights AND cluster lights). about a mile later i get seriously pissed off and pull over, pop the hood and unplug both horn connectors. so i drive off, finally my horn isn't blaring every second but my lights are still flashing. then it finally turns off by itself??? about 45 minutes later i get into town and stop at a convenience store, only to come out to find my lights are flashing again well at least my horn isn't going off like crazy... then the alarm turns off as i leave the store. then i get to my house about 1 mile away and it starts again...headlights and cluster lights flashing away. by this time i'm pretty pissed off....then the alarm shuts off by itself again. WTF????

i went to work tonight and it didn't happen tonight (thank god, i deliver pizza and would have had to stop driving it....i can't deliver pizza with flashing lights lol).

any insight certainly appreciated, i can't have this problem happening while i'm at work!

The alarm went off because you armed the system (locked the doors), then unlocked one manually and proceeded to open it. All you have to do to stop the alarm is to unlock the doors on the key fob or the driver side lock switch.

Hahaha... you were too tired to be dealing with that. Sounds like you seriously pissed off the car.

Where the keys in the ignition when you slept?

haha yeah it sure seemed like it! btw what happened was i left the keys in the ignition, opened both driver'* side doors, locked all the doors with the driver'* door switch and closed the door, then hopped in the back seat and fell asleep. then when i opened the door 2hrs later is when the alarm went off (makes sense, thanks Shaun). i also did not use my keys to unlock the driver'* door (since they were still in the ignition). i just reached up from the back seat and manually unlocked it.

well sounds like i know why it went off now and can prevent it from happening again....and i can plug my horns back in now

thanks!

btw i had NO IDEA this car had a factory alarm system until this happened!

when ever the system is armed, which you did, and you manually unlock the front doors via sliding the lock of depressing the unlock button, that alarm will go off.

All SSEi'* got the alarm standard, and most SSE'*. The security system is pretty transparent to most owners.

Did you lay on the keypad? You might of pushed the panic button accidentally on the pad.
