Mine never failed but I changed the gaskets @ 75k due to external leaks.

My UIM never failed. I changed it at 77,000 miles last year as preventative maintenance. I also did the lower gaskets. The lowers were trashed. IMO, we need to be more concerned with the lower gaskets. If I were to have a failure, I'm convinced it would have derived from the lower gaskets.

Now, at 118,000 miles, my upper intake gasket is leaking. I'll probably tear into it next weekend (once the repaired and sleeved UIM comes from Bob Dillon).

My neighbors 98 Olds Ls failed just the other day at 68 K'*,on the way back from a fishing trip.I asked him if he had put the 180 t stat in like I told him to do last year and he said he never got around to it.cost him 1100 cnd to fix.

Lumina is going strong with 149K on it and I believe is all original (bought with 95K) but the tranny seems like if it is beat on it might go (which might be soon now that my bro is driving it )

mine failed a couple weeks ago at 155,xxx....if you havent replaced it already i say go ahead and replace it...the aftermarket unit is much more beefy.
