Whell speed sensor
 

I was wondering if anyone has a part number and price for a wheel speed sensor for a 96 SE. The dealer is giving my uncle the run around and I told him Id get it for him and do it.. so if you could get me a p# or a price that would be awesome :wink:

you have to replace the fucking hub?... well shit... that sucks.. :? Its a speed sensor throughing his traction and abs lights.

Following the above posts...i know i need to replace the wheel sensor on my 1994 SSEi. 2 questions:

1. Is there any advantage going with GMpartsdirect hub/sensor (US$170) vs. autozone TIMKEN #513087 (US$140)? Will either of these parts work?

2. Anyone tried changing this yourself, or is it not worth the effort?

I used the Timken bearing on my front wheel and have had good luck with it... about 50,000 miles. It's fairly easy, just make sure you have all of the right sockets and drivers.

Thanks tons! I'm going to autozone for the Timken #513087, but i think i'll let a garage put it in. I imagine you two both have more than a little experience on these and i've heard you need a press or something to do the job properly.

No press necessary. Once you have all of the bolts and the big nut off from the drive axle, it should come out. Sometimes it is rusted to the frame or knuckle, and then it causes problems. A crowbar worked great on mine.

Penetrating oil like PB Blaster worked for me and you can really do this job by yourself. Well, almost by yourself. I borrowed a friend (Big Tony) to help me get the axle nut off. But it's really not a difficult job if you follow these directions.
