Traction control/ABS issue
Well, this is a new one. Going home from work today, the ABS and Traction lights come on, of course, first thought is a WSS. I pull into my driveway and restart the car, lights are off but I'm hearing quite a racket under the hood. The traction unit is going beserk acting as if I'm slipping the wheels on ice...same noise as if it'* kicking in. It'* doing this on and off at random on it'* own. The second I move the car, both lights come back on and it goes quiet. Thoughts?

My 2000 Blazer did this to me awhile back, come to find out it was the left front wheel sensor.
Dan has a writeup on how to test the individual sensors at the wheels.

Of course, you could always pull the main ABS fuse to disable everything to keep it from doing what you are describing. Yes, your brakes will still work fine, you just won't have TCS, or ABS.

Yeah, I'm about to go on a trip not this weekend but next...I can't remember the last time I needed either system so I may just pull the fuse for now. I have the FSM, but knowing there are usually multiple fuses for everything, which fuse is it and where ?

It is probably throwing an error code, but you won't be able to read it with a standard scanner. You need a scanner that can read ABS error codes. I had mine scanned by a transmission shop and it turned out to be a bad EBCS module. There are simple checks you can do to see if the individual wheel sensors are working or not, but beyond that you should get it scanned.

I think you may have a 40 amp fuse under the hood next to the firewall. This fuse should control both ABS and TCS.
