before the LN3 was the LG2 and LG3, different yet, parents had on in there old 86 PA, it used no oil between changes at all.
My old SSEis L67 at 150000miles+ used no oil, nor does my Bonneville now.
All 3.8s, 3800s were the same for each year, wether it be a Buick, Pontiac, or Oldsmobile, the 3800 in your 99 LeSabre is identical to that in say a 99 Bonneville N/A.
Engine mounts were a bit diffrent, some utilized the Dog Bone mounts in the front and so on so fourth.
Minor oil consumption is normal, the clearance between the rings and bore is extreamly minimal at best, still can allow for oil to pass through and what not.

I do also think we need to take into account who or how the engine was assembled... I'm sure not every set of piston rings was placed in a perfect manner... So while most will not use oil a few others will, and if that consumption does not change over the service life than it may likely stay that way... Friends 3.0 V6 at 200,000 never used oil... And it always looked clean even at 3000 miles....
Its an incredbily good thing that we don't have the piston slapp issues that some chevrolets had, along with some nasty oil burning... And I'm not talking about the valve guid or Valve stem seals either...lol
