Default what next??????

Well, I can testify that living right might bring more trouble than it seems to get rid of.....

Ok, here is the deal......this week I/we discover that the tranny in the B'ville is not going into lock up mode, so we need to deal with that, today I find the reason for the slow coolant disappearance that has been going on for the last couple of months...the upper manifold gasket is leaking.....you can see the antifreeze residue on the outside edges.......now tonight the Honda my wife is now driving blows the friggin' battery up when she goes to start it at work. Pulled the battery, box, etc. and proceeded to rinse everything with LOTS of water.......What sort of time and $$$ am I looking for on the intake fix and does anyone know why a perfectly good battery would come unglued and go postal????? like I said......what next?????

Save yourself the money, do the intake yourself. No biggie. Bad battery? Shorted cells. Cracked seperator. It happens. Get some baking soda and sprinkle it around the battery box while it'* wet. It'll neutralize the acid. Water alone will NOT be sufficient!

Good luck!

I did the intake on my,it took about a half a day,I also did the antifreeze and termastat at the same time, but my is a supercharge series. It wasn't bad, all it take is time and memery.
I had a battery explode like yours did also. My friend told me to check the alternator to see if it was overcharging.that will cause it to blow up. he was right,I had to change that too.

Anyone have any service pages with instructions/ pictures. I probably can do this anyway, I have a Haynes manual but it is very vague and also covers years other than my 96........???? I guess I just go by the dealer and pick up the intake gasket.....anything special I am going to run into or need to remember to look for and do ??? Any pointers would be helpful....Thanks a million for all the help........I still think I'll sell them both and go back to riding a horse.........And I do not mean a Ford Mustang either...

Dylan'* dad: You may want to go to GM'* parts website...the manifold may be cheaper than buying it from a dealer. That'* if you can wait a few days on it. Can't remember the exact URL from work, but I found it on Yahoo searching for 'genuine gm parts'. Dunno why, but I don't trust car dealers.

Depending on what year of Bonneville you've got, there may be an updated manifold kit offered! There was a TSB on this somewhere!

hey Deathrat, It is a 96 SE, I added all that stuff to my signature, you may not have noticed it. But is a TSB something the dealer is to fix at their expense, or just a suggested replacement procedure?? I have priced the gasket kit at 40 and the intake itself at 250. That is from a dealer locally.........good price????
