I read in another thread that if you have a sweet smelling exhaust, it means it is failing, is that true?

If you have an exhaust that smells too rich it would indicate a bad O2 sensor. If you have have a sweet smelling exhaust, that'* a good indication of burning coolant, and likely intake gasket failure.

I know it'* a haul, but if the car can hold out until the Minnesota Meet in June come up to Mankato and I'll do the labor for free if Seth doesn't mind us doing it on his property. Your cost would be the gaskets, coolant, 2 oil filters and 10 quarts oil, and a can of TB cleaner, and the expense for the trip, and a lot of fun and laughter ...... and beer drinking.

Notice how rusty that thing is? Whats the best stuff to free it up so I can get it out of there?

PB Blaster.. let it soak a couple minutes... also helps if you exhaust is WARM to the touch, not HOT

also helps if you get an o2 sensor socket with a cutout for the wiring.. rent one at autozone

Yup, what Haro said. Keep in mind, that if you do have a coolant leak into the cylinders, your new O2 sensor won't last very long. Get only an AC/Delco, or Denso.
