Hello,

I was replacing my MAF this morning and I noticed a molded black plastic thing in front of the air filter connected to the intake. Out of curiousity, I pulled it off and it was empty...nothing connected to it. This is probably a dumb question, but what is it for? After pulling it off, I could see the air cleaner, so my only guess is that it is for quickly checking the air cleaner for debris. ...or did somebody pull something off of it before I bought the car???

Thanks!

Wow!

Your description leaves me with a strange confused feeling. Can you be a bit more descriptive, or better yet take a picture and post it here for us?

By your current description, I am inclined to say that that is the front of your airbox, but some of the rest of what you said leaves me wondering.

Is your air filter just sort of open to the engine bay or is it inside your airbox?

I'm thinking it'* the helmholtz resonator. Reduces intake noise.
