Needed to put new tags on the bonnie. Took off the rear plate, granted I have taken them off before, but noticed this and it sparked my interest. What does this single black dot inlay represent? Seems kinda random...

Think they were gonna put an exterior spare tire carrier on these cars like the Blazers and trucks did? Then scrapped the idea?

Is it a plug? if so pull and look. It'* most likely access or visibility to a connector or bolt.

dont think so, I think it just ends...(at least on my car it does...dont know if bonnevilles are the same)

but I put a spare door key in there

It is a provision for using your jack handle so you can crank the engine and start it just like the old Ford Model "T" cars.
