Default Weird take-offs and RPM issues

Ok so far I've installed new plugs, new wires, new fuel filter, new battery and a K&N air filter. But I still can't get a nice take off, by that I mean if I gun the car it starts out nice tires squeal then it'* like someone pulled the plug (I think it shifts at this point) then the car feels like it nosedives then it takes off again but won't shift until it almost red-lines. But if I don't gun the car and just push the accelerator firmly and steady I take off like a rocket. Is this a transmission problem? Oh I have not replaced the O2 sensor or any other sensors for that matter, yet.

Next is there some kind of rev limiter on these cars. In park I try reving up the engine to see if I have any misfires and if I get it to 4000 rpms the car will drop to 3500 and if I keep the peddle there it will cycle 4000 to 3500 to 4000 to 3500 and so on.

Yes there is a rev limiter on you car it sould be around 4000 standing still and about 5500 when moving. Here is a previous post on the rev limiter.

Thanks for the post link I'm glad thats it I was getting misfires so bad before I couldn't rev it over 3000 RPM... but now after reading those posts I realize that I really shouldn't be reving it in park but I sort-of knew that.

why is it bad news to rev the engine up in park or neutral? i mean i know it can blow, but just a couple quick snaps every once in a while shouldn't hurt should it?

My understanding is reving it with out actually going can leave carbon deposits on your valves, cylinders, and spark plugs.

Anyways does anyone know what might be happening to me on the take-off issue?

I take off the same way most of the time. If I hit the gas hard and squawk the tires it seems to be fine, but it seems to take forever to shift. I was neck and neck with my bro for a long time the last time I raced him because of this. Then I smoked him once i got up to speed. But when I start a bit slow then punch it once I'm at like 10mph, I fly like a bat outta hell. I also fly when I start my car and run hard within 5 minutes, when it'* still cool.

But I think I remember another post, maybe by Sol, who had the same kind of take off questions. Someone said somthing like he was 'running too rich" or something. Sorry, I don't know 4 sure.

Thanks for the info I just want to make sure it'* either just the way the car is or if there'* really a problem. I'd hate my self if it was a problem and I just ignored it and had another car blow up on me.

Oh and there'* this sensor on the back of my intake box I ummm well I forgot to plug it back in after installing my K&N and cleaning the box and hose would that have any noticeable effect on the car?

The IAT...well as long as you put it back in now it should be fine. I don't think you'll have a problem with that. Someone else did the same thing a while back...no worries.

Yeah I saw that post too. I'm thinking that sounds a lot like my issue too.

Thanks again.
