i was going to say cruise but cold temps could have caused the throttle to stick in that position then just by fluke it unstuck when you hit the break

Maybe the pedal stuck? And when you pressed the brake, you bumped the gas without realizing it, causing it to release???

i do this all the time with my 88 to save gas. i go at 70mph for a while then take my foot off the gas and just coast at about 70-68 mph for a while.. the weight of the car pulls me..

Moved to the 92-99 folder because this is a mechanical issue...any chance you accidentally turned on the cruise control? When you let off the gas, the rpm'* should decrease and the car should slowly decelerate. These cars will coast longer and decelerate slower than smaller cars...but if the rpm'* and speed stayed the same for 5 miles...then no, that is not normal.

Are you sure? I'd expect that to be standard equipment on an SSEi

I'm surprised. I didn't think you could even ORDER a Bonneville without it.

Do you mean it'* been broken for awhile?

You may have inadvertently pressed the cruise "set" button when changing lanes, and did not realize the cruise was engaged.
