as if it werent hard enough to get the old control arms out ! my problem is that i cannot seem to get the last screw in . it is in an awkward spot between gas tank and cross member it will go partially in but no more than that because of the andgle of entry all other screws are in. anyone have any tips or tricks on how to get this screw through to the other side? holes are lined up btw

Since no one has replied yet, I went out and crawled under our '94 to see if I could figure out where you're at.

You're talking about the massive bolts and nuts that attach the inner side of the control arm to the frame flanges, right?

It looks like you're the victim on the wrong side of a tolerance spec. You've probably already thought of this, but can you reverse the bolt and bring it through from the inside rather than from the outside?

Can you shave the bolt down a bit in length (leaving the nut on, and then drawing it off after cutting)?

Any chance of levering the gas tank away from your acces area (maybe it'* slipped backwards a bit with age?).

Don't know if any of this will help, but maybe you'll be inspired to keep trying (or else one of the gearguys will have a method).

Good luck !

Can either of you get a picture...I'm not quite able to picture what the issue is.. unless it simply needs a little persuasion and there'* no room?

yes i actually did think of putting in in the opposite way and for some reasonpontiac wanted to make it even more difficult. the reason being that iside the bushing for the control arm there is this sort of tunnel that the screw goes through and it is cone shaped so the screw will only fit in one way. the other ideas are also good i will have to try one. weird thing is that i already changed the control arm on the other side and had no problem getting the screw back in after hammering it just a bit (the other side still has the same space issues so idk what it could be)

Read This: Can I Post Images?

You need to host the pictures in some place like photobucket dot com. Then you can link them directly into your thread.

Here'* a sticky on it, with details:

it is possible that the tank needs to come out for the work. However..by the wetness on the tank..I'd say unless that'* lube from you spraying the bolts.. that tank needs to be replaced asap.
