Default Updated: Speedometer problems .. Please Help!

Ok, if some of you remember.. my speedometer and HUD hasn't been working at all for the past few months and i've been driving anyways.. and i've been fine. Lately, i've been kinda missing the HUD and knowing exactly how fast i'm going so i dropped it off at my local pontiac dealership to see what exactly is wrong. So today i got it back and they claim that my PCM has gone bad , but my cluster is fine. Does anyone in here know how exactly a PCM can go bad in the first place? They wrote me up an estimate for 369 for a new PCM and a grand total of 589$ to get a new PCM installed and i about crapped.. because i'm heading off to college soon and i can NOT afford that much. I was wondering if anyone in here could help me out on where i can find a cheap pcm etc .. and tell me how exactly they go bad. Thanks.

www.intense-racing.com

Spend 200 or so, and you can have more performance and features.

Ryan, can you give us more details?

Is the car shifting at the right points, does your cruise control work, and have you checked the VSS?

Bill, the cruise control does not work .. and i'm sorry but i dont know what VSS is.. help?? ..and yes, it seems to shift at all the right points.

BTW: The compass on the left doesn't work any more either?? .. I heard that was due to my 3 12'* in the trunk and subs have magnets in them so it sets off the compass?

All sorts of problems for ryry :(

It'll remove most of the torque management (but save the tranny). It'll also raise your speed limiter, shift points, rev limiter, give you slightly more power, and maybe firmer shifts.

It'll turn on fans earlier, and might leave them on for a minute after you turn it off if it'* above a certain temp. It also gets power out of your mods.
