Default Umm....help...

Hey all, was driving around tonight, and first off, I think the coupler for the supercharger finally took a ****, if I only put the throttle quarter way down, the boost jumps to +5, whereas before it wouldn't move very much. Sounds Horendous
secondly, if the coupler is spun, (hopefully getting a new one on order from Intense soon as possible) would this cause a slight miss, or a feeling of a slight miss in the engine. (although, the coils were put on new almost 70K ago )
Any info would be greatly appreciated!!! Thanks all, ~Brandon~

Hmm? sounds like you should look at your vacuum lines, you might have popped one off?
A coupler has no effect on engine firing.
You can still drive it but it makes a frap sound and has no power?

Just fixed the vacuum lines last night, all looked okay when I looked again when I got home. It is having some hesitation when taking off from a light, and sometimes hesitates to downshift, and the coupler is "frapping" like crazy, even worse now...
But the wierd thing is, the miss is intermittant. All of a sudden, it is fine, then without warning, it will suddenly be missing again.

i figured the coupler wouldn't cause a miss, but being the first supercharged car I have owned, i just wasn't sure

Update, just took it around for a quick spin, definately acting like not firing on all cylinders. Checked vac lines (that were accessible) and checked plug wires on both ends, all seems well (granted, I can't check the condition of the wires tonight), but to be honest, it feels more like a timing/spark ignition problem, just as it would feel if one of the coil packs is on the way out. Kinda shakey at start from a stop, or on pretty decent accelleration, but once up to cruising speed, seems to do okay so long as I don't go past quarter throttle or so, anything above that, or great accelleration, then it acts like it isn't getting the correct spark. Sorry if this is vague, but if I can't figure it out by Fri morn, I will have to have a contact at GM look at it, hopefully for no/very small charge.
just want my baby running right. Oh, and it is not throwing a code.

A bad coupler will not affect boost. It'll still produce boost fine (other than noise). Look at vacuum lines, gasket leaks, and controls (sensors/actuators).

A coupler will only rattle at idle. Remove the SC belt and rotate the SC pulley by hand back and forth. How much 'slop' is there?

Pull it in and out and wobble it to check the conditions of the bearings. Ignoring coupler slop, there should be no play in any other direction.

Your miss needs to be tracked down. If you haven't replaced your plugs and wires, consider doing so now. Belden premiums from NAPA (blue in color) and NGK TR-55 V-power plugs gapped at .060"

At night (idling) spray water with a glass cleaner spray bottle over the plug wires (disconnect your underhood light first) and watch for arcs. Measure the resistance of each plug wire and report the values here from shortest to longest wire. Check your coils per Techinfo. Consider removing your TB (you'll need a new gasket) and cleaning it, the IAC, and the MAF. That procedure is in Techinfo also.

How far are you from Taylor?

Bill, not more than fifteen to twenty minutes from Taylor, was supposed to go over there this morning, but work called me in. go figure. So i am hopefully shooting for tomorrow morning. I have a spare set of coils and an ICM, will check wires before doing all that though, (with how oil saturated these turned out to be, combined with the washing of the other day, I think one wire may have finally gave way...) will be checking that out tonight. As for the SC, I will be getting a coupler regardless...lol, so with the noise i am just assuming the worst. (gives me an excuse to get an upgraded coupler... )

Will keep you posted on what we find tomorrow. Thanks for responding...

Will be calling Taylor in a few hours...

Went out and tried the spray thing (something I have forgotten as i haven't had to do that trick for a while), got nothing noticable, except for a change in RPM'* with a continuous mist, but I can't find/hear any type of vac leak.

It finally threw a check engine light, so I am hoping it stays on until tomorrow so I can get it to pull the code for me, though I am sure it is for a misfire, the computer is finally seeing it.

Anyways, will keep you guys posted...

Okay so, as mentioned above, but now the back one is leaking again, urgh! gasket was is place when put in, we checked the damn thing twice, gonna check to see if a bottom bolt somehow got cross threaded...grr...

Anyone know if I am able to use the coils from a '89 Baretta as tester coils, I have about ten of these sitting around in the garage, and they look exactly the same. I don't know if they are different, as coils are usually just a magnectic on off field, otherwise, out to the wrecking yard Suday afternoon/Monday...thanks ~Brandon~
