Well this problem is getting worse. It seems each bump I hit just rips the metal a little more. I'm going to try not to use the trunk anymore, seeing as sometimes it doesn't close now because its gotten so bad that the latch doesn't always line up anymore.

I went to meineke to see if they could weld it up and they said that they couldn't for liabiliy reasons. They referred me to a body shop so I went there to get a estimate and the quoted it at $237!!!! I'm pretty sure I could find a whole new lid for that amount.

I cannot afford that much for my trunk so I might be trying the washer method soon. Does anyone have any other ideas?

Hey I'm wondering if anyone who has used gmpartsdirect.com often would be able to help me. I'm trying to find the part that is shown in the pictures of this post (page 1) that is tearing and I think I found it on the gmpartsdirect.com website, but I'm not sure because they aren't very clear about it.

In the picture above the part I believe I need to replace is # 18, the inner panel on the trunk lid that the latch is attached to. I'm trying to figure out if #18 is the same part as the part # listed above. If no one is sure though, I guess I could go into a GM dealer and see if they could tell me. Thanks anyone who can help!!!

I hope that the washer method works good... it would be great to see some pics. I'm just concerned the situation has become too bad for washers now.
