Hello all, newbie here...

I'm Mark, from Minneapolis, MN, and I've got a '92 SSE with nearly every option and some awesome rust and a big dent.

anyway, the snow is finally flying around here, and i've discovered that nearly every time my traction control engages, the ABS and the 'traction off' lights come on, and the system will not function until i restart the car. however, if i turn off the traction control before it has a chance to engage, the ABS works perfectly.

Has anybody else had this problem, specifically when the traction control engages the ABS system goes dead? any and all feedback is greatly appreciated.

check and clean all your wheel speed sensors

by clean do you mean the electrical contacts or to actually disassemble the sensor/bearings for cleaning? ( i'm assuming you mean the former, but just checking)

Check the electrical connections like you mention..then pull all 4 wheels and powerwash the backs of the hubs.

We've had many new members in New England..it was only a matter of time before the MN guys got a new person. There is a big concentration of members in MN....Post something up in Introduction and I'm sure you'll see them.

Don't try to disassemble your hubs. It'* not possible.

In this particular case, since he states that his ABS works perfectly if he prevents TC from taking it out, I don't see how it'* a wheel speed sensor.

ABS uses those too.

ABS was working on the 95, however the TC was a problem. Mortehl says he found a nearly unconnected WSS.

Makes zero sense to me...but I haven't looked into the system deeply.

see that'* what i figured, because the ABS works fine, I was thinking it could be something more simple (and hopefully cheap) that would be the problem...
Is ABS/TC really that elusive of a system?

Elusive? Only in the sense that it takes a dealer to pull your codes for diagnosis.

And if it'* not a WSS, it gets ALOT more expensive from there. Most likely cuprit at that point would be the PMV assembly (the big thing with brake lines attached to it under your airbox), and that'* a spendy bugger that'* a PITA to change.

No flaming or anything. MN doesn't have that many mapped members. You might want to add yourself.

that'* not what i wanted to hear.... is that a maintainable part? could it maybe be something as stupid as needing to bleed the brakes, like old cloudy brake fluid cloggin the valves?
