The trans casing is under some pretty extreme torque, so my gut says no.

Where exactly is the damage, and what caused it (if you know)? Pics?

Default case

Agreed the case is vital to the trans operation. Could you post pics. If it were just a small leak spot you may be able to get away with it but not with a long crack.

I'll assume the break is in the output (differential) housing. That'* usually caused by catastrophic differential damage, even though it may still be driveable.

Let'* get some more specifics.

yea willwren,it was right at the output.one day i was just driving you kow,and i was backing up a parking lot and out of knowere, something loud poped.i was lke wtf...wht was that?so i inspect it and nothing,no leaks no nothing..so icontinue driving it and in less than 50 yards,my car turns or i should ssay wrestles me to the opposite way...ok what i ment was that i was going straight but the car was turning to the right n well i was forcing it not too n well i pulled over and i inspected everything agian, and nothing was wrong.so i drive home and the car never did that, till 3 days later,i was at work.."csk auto" and well i started my car and i puled out of the parking lot and made a 180 degree turn to the left and my car wouldnt turn..normal.....so i gave it a lil gas and pop..there goes that pop agian, with the diffrence that this time the steering whel would stay straight.so i parked and now there was damage and leaking casing at the output.i say its a well 6 inches long crack.whats funny is that the cv axle wasnt twisted or damaged so that wasnt the start of my problem,so i still dont know what might of caused it...im going t0 take pics and post them...but someone show me how to upload them to the computer...please hep me...

You broke the pinion shaft in the diff. Just like I did 2 years ago. The pin is only retained on one side, so the broken half comes out of the diff, impacts the housing, and breaks it or machines it down.

You need a new diff, output housing, and probably a full rebuild. With that failure, it would be a VERY good idea to toss the factory trans cooler and bypass the trans core in the radiator. You just spewed debris all through your system, and those cores can get blocked easily, starving your trans for fluid.

This is not going to be an inexpensive repair.

1800-2500 depending on options and shops.

Or a used one from a wrecker for around 250-500.
