Default transmission is shot. mod or buy new one?

well it finally went.. i tried starting the car up today, put it in drive, gave it some gas.. the rpms went up to about 3000 and i gradually started moving about 1 mile per hour. ive had the code for tcc slip for the past year or so, i guess it finally caught up with me. so now my options are, replace the trans with another 4t60e reman. off ebay, or is there any way to salvage the one i have? maybe its just the torque converter thats bad, any way to test it? i heard that the 4t65e is stronger, would i be able to use that transmission instead? what about the 4t60 hd? i would like something that is going to last so i dont have to replace the transmission in this car again anytime soon. are there any mods that i can do to a new transmission, or to my old one, for better shifting? how'* the b&m shiftplus kit? thanks for any help.

In reality it all depends on the condition of your car..consider a trans costing $1500-$2000

A 1996 se with 232000 bluebooks around 2300...keep that in mind.

however if you do rebuld it and the rest of the car is good you should have a failry troublefree car for quite a while.

the only way for you to put in a 4t65 would be for you to swap wiring harnesses, pcms, and possibly motors to a car that came with a 4t65.

4T60'* are more durable and reliable, especially on stock or mildly modded cars.

You want the TransGo 4T60 Jr. shift kit, not the B&M.

An HD unit is rated that PRIMARILY in gear ratio. The main difference is the differential. You'd need a very difficult PCM change to run that.

I suggest a good rebuild with the shift kit. This will solve the TCC problems and 2nd gear clutch problems for a long long time for you.

ill look into the transgo kit. im getting the code P1870 currently, does this kit address this code? how hard would it be to just put the kit in my trans myself?

The shift kit I mentioned is not a self-install. It requires extensive modification to the valvebody.

You need to define that code better. I don't have them all comitted to memory.
