Yeah, this is not rocket science. (Although one of our gearheads is a rocket scientist!) If you have no evidence of an external coolant leak, and two symptoms of an internal leak (falling coolant level, and white smoke out the exhaust), the obvious conclusion is leaking LIM gaskets or bad UIM. Both should be done on the car anyway as insurance.

I agree with willwren, find another mechanic.

you know, i would find another mech ASAP but the one and only reason i took my car back to these guys is because their the ones that installed my engine and the engine is on warranty though them and this is an actual shop no back alley stuff telling me this Sh*t...i can't win for losing i tell ya..i'm thinking that their telling me it'* my ignition module is because they are trying to pay for something having to do with that motor want to use my money and it'* really nothing wrong with the module..if they change it im going to ask for my old part back to see if they actually changed it.....im the mean while i know G**DAM WELL thats not the problem with the car..

If the shop is not honest, you don't want them working on your car, period. You will not be able to force a bad mechanic to do good work if he doesn't know what he'* doing or if he is resentful.

We have guided many through the UIM/LIM repair work here on BC. If you are willing and able to give it a try, you can do the work yourself for around $200. If you have to buy all the tools you need, you can even do that for an extra $100.

Does your engine look like this?

or this?

notice the coolant wicking up by the bolts?

Cuz mine was leaking and a couple of local mechanics never mentioned that the LIM was leaking even though I specifically asked them. They never mentioned that the valve cover gaskets were leaking....two places, two different mechanics.

And here'* what my LIM gaskets looked like...

I'm not trying to diagnose your car on-line, but you can look around for yourself and then read other threads here to determine whether or not you've go the leak(*).

I am brain dead and did my UIM/LIM myself. I had a small error in assembling the UIM and had to redo it.

This club is very helpful if you want to do it on your own. I just couldn't take it to a mechanic and take the chance that they would not do exaclty what I wanted done...so I did it myself.

Which one is better for an amateur like me a Chiltons or a Haynes book? Does anybody have faith in me that I can do my UIM and LIM gaskets by myself? You know, I finally got my car from the shop (unfixed) I don’t want them to even look at my car and they told me that my spark plug wires where crossed up which I checked and they where, which I didn’t do, my car was running when i parked it before i took it to the shop. they got #6 wire going to #1 cylinder, #2 going to # 5 cylinder and so on. They seem to be doing all of this to not honor my warranty on my motor. Well anyway I called the better business bureau on them and got a claim number and all so what should I do call a lawyer too? My warranty on my motor expires April 6, 06 that’* the 3 month period because they know I’m not going to reach the 4,000 mile part of the warranty.
