Default Trannies the same?

I'm watching a '96 SE that is for sale that has a bad tranny (won't shift past 2nd). I happen to have a transmission from a '91 Park Avenue, which is the 4T60E type (apparently Buick put the next generation stuff, like the L27, in Park Avenues before the masses got them).

Would my tranny work in the '96?

Thanks for any advice.

I put an '86 4T60 in my '90 SSE, which required repinning. No big deal, but fewer pins, of course, and none of the parts stores had a gasket to put back on it.

Isn't the drive ratio built into the transfer drive? Which is behind the valve body? And has 4th gear built into it? I went to a lower numerical ratio in the SSE with the tranny change, end result is slower off the line but better mileage. If I really got a hair, I'd swap the drive (I think).

I have a Haynes that covers the 4T60, but not the -E.
