Okay, I have been trying to diagnose a problem I have been having with the motor sputtering and a roiugh idle.
I was told to disconnect the TPS and see if it runs different.
I did this. No difference in the way it ran.
Only one difference though. My check engine light has NEVER come o before. It was on this time. When I hooked it back up. Check engine light went off.
If the TPS was bad, wouldn't the light have come on before? Oh have I found my problem?

To go more into detial about the problem........
If I drive around and only press the gas pedal the minimum amount, I have no problems. It does not sputter or jerk. If I give it moderate to full throttle, It will surge and it is very oblvious that it is only getting 50% power at most.
In nuetral, I can slowly rev the motor and it will build RPMS without sputtering. But even in nuetral, if I quickly press the gas pedal down, it will sputter again.
I am assuming this is an OBD1 computer. How much do the readers cost?
p.*. - I have also unpluged the EGR valve and did not notice a difference in the way it runs.

sorry, I changed it about a month ago.
the problem did not start until after it set undriven for about 2 1/2 weeks. I had to put a tranny in it.
I did not have to hook or unhook anything up when I did that. Nothing but the tranny itself ofcourse....In fact, I drove it to the shop to put the tranny in, which I did myself, what a pain...... and I noticed it on the way to the shop.

I take it that the fuel pressure regulator is the small cylinder thing attached to the fuel rail that has a vacuum hose coming straight out of the top. I unplugged that vacuum hose and it did not change the way the car ran.

Do you have a fuel pressure gauge? Screw it in to the schroeder valve on the fuel rail. I believe that if you unplug the vacuum line to the Fuel pressure regulator, the pressure should go up.
