Awesome call, Willwren. Took it over to my friend the mechanic tonight, played with the tensioner a little, and pronounced it to be toast. Said it is binding and not moving freely. Not keeping a constant pressure on the belt.
Will have it in this weekend and will let you guys know what happens.
Any tips for doing it, btw?

its easy with the right sockets actually. dont think a l36 is that much difference than an L27 but will wait for someone else to chime in.

these are all over junkyards for 20 bucks or so or cheaper.

Well, looks like Willwren was really right. Tensioner got changed today and car is driving VERY nicely.

More weird is that when I was driving around tonight, I noticed that the little vibration that i was getting at 80KMs (50 mph ish), especially when going up hills, is now gone too. Might just be a weird fluke, but I kept trying to make it happen, and I couldn't. Will have to see what the coming days bring.
