Hey all. As some of you may know, I have a '92 Bonneville SSEi Supercharged. Now, when the engine is just starting-up, the car will take-off with the best of them. While driving to work, I can max-out my 'Boost' guage, and all is good. However, when the engine hits about the 200 point, the 'Service Engine Soon' light will suddenly come-on, and I cannot get my boost past the actual line that says 'Boost'. It seems as though the supercharger will not even engage. The strange thing about the service light, is that it will not come-on while I am giving it gas, or braking; Only while I'm coasting. At the moment, I don't have the funds to have the dealer scan it, nor do I have enough knowledge to scan it myself, so I am kind of dead in the water. I originally thought it was my O2-sensor, but I replaced that to no avail. So, if anyone has had similar problems, or any form of help or ideas, it would be greatly appreciated.

You need to scan and get the error code(*) to determine the cause of the problem. All you need is a paper clip, and follow the previously posted instructions. It'* easy.

Coincidentally, I had a similar problem a couple of weeks ago on my '92 SSE */c, but I don't drive mine hard, so I don't know if mine also had a problem creating boost at that time. On mine, the SES light came on momentarily, and it only occurred while coasting, always roughly 5 seconds after letting off the accelerator. On mine, error code 56 (Quad driver B error) was present. My troubleshooting revealed that the boost control solenoid was defective, and it took all of 5 minutes to replace.

I'm gonna go X2 with billha. Sounds just like it. Another cause of the SES behavior like that is the EGR valve acting up, but it doesn't explain the boost problem.

Well, I tried retrieving the error-codes, and came-up with nothing. It simply flashes the 'Check-Engine' light once, then waits, and flashes it twice in quick succession; Which, if I'm understanding correctly, means it'* a 'Code 12', and therefore, everything is functioning normally. Maybe I'm doing something in-correctly. Please help if you have anything else to offer.

Unless the code is current, you won't retrieve it in that manner. After the PCM sees the device work properly, it moves the code to 'history' where a real scantool is the only way of reading it. You must paperclip it while the code is current (light is on).

This is going to be weird, but because the light only comes-on when I am coasting, can I take it up to a county road or something, and whip-out the paper-clip while I'm driving/the engine is on? Besides the fact of it being dangerous, would it work while the engine is on?
