Sunroof Making A Grinding Sound.
When ever I retract the sunroof it sounds as though the glass is jumping the track. If I help it along with my hand it goes away, but if there is no added pressure to aid in the sliding of the glass it sounds as though the gears are grinding. I have to press the sunroof button in the opposite direction to get the sound to stop.
I've removed the headliner and the motor is still turning when the sunroof stops moving and the sound is there so I don't believe it'* in the motor gearing. I've removed the motor and syncronized it reinstalled and there is no change. I checked the FSM and there is no trouble shooting for this problem that I noticed.
Any suggestions?

The sunroof is moved along by a plastic track as I recall. Likely the plastic that the motor gearing moves is chewed and casing the noise. Replacing the track fixed the issue in my case.

Thanks Bill:
I'll assume you got the track from the yard?
Was the track difficult to remove?
I'll assume you had to syncro the replacement track?

Was a couple years back. I believe the hardest part was getting some of the screws out. They were in there well due to the age of the car. Yes, JY part.

I took the sunroof out and found that the gearing was worn. I don't believe it can be repaired since it'* a sealed unit. I'll have to check the yard to see if they have stock. I'll assume I can only use one from a 96-99 bonne?

I do not believe GM changed the sunroof between 92-99, I'd recommend checking the part number with any suppliers you can find to double check.

I checked the listing at the yard for the years 96-99 and there was no stock. I could try as far back as 92 but am concerned about it being worn also.
Thanks for the information Bill, at the moment I've got the opening sealed with pieces of plexiglass.

I took the chance with the newest one I could find at the yard. It clicked or made noise once or twice after I resynched it and I waved it off, peeved with it thinking the effort was wasted.
Since then, it'* worked flawlessly.

At the yard I go to there is no way to check them since the battery and usually the ignition key is missing so I'll have to take my chance. I should be going in two weeks.
