Default Back reading lights in 96 SSE

When i got my 96 the rear reading lights didnt work and the switches for them were missing. I thought it might be the fuse but it isnt. I changed the bulbs and it wasnt that either. If anyone know anything else i can try pleez help me out.

Have you checked for voltage to the bulbs? You may want to check out that switch which is missing. Do the lights work when you open the door? also known as the "courtesy lights"

I had this problem recently and found my solution at the junk yard. The plastic switch that moves up and down has a metal contact on the rear. I believe that switch is necessary to make it work whether its manual or auto with doors.

Then there is obviously something up with the wiring to the bulbs. The lights from a junker will work, if the wiring up to the light is okay, of course if the junker'* lights worked too .
