The chances of the lifter wearing out the cam lobe is very small, unless the roller seized up.
Check your harmonic balancer. If that'* messed up you will get vibrations. There'* a rubber area between the inside and outside, if that rubber goes bad it will vibrate.

I still need to explain the noise that'* coming out of my engine while revving above 2000 rpm though. I think I'll replace the lifters and then go from there.

IIRC, 3800'* have lifter guides that prevent them from being installed any other way or from turning on their own.

I just found this.
The lifters are slotted on two sides.

There'* no way they could have turned without breaking the guides. The guides were intact.
