struts?

I'm a newbie looking for some strut information. I have a 1995 SSEi with 110k and need to replace struts because they are leaking. Could someone explain to me why the struts on my car are special (air ride buttons etc.). Is there any replacement to still be able to use those options? I would appreciate any help. Thanks.
