As far as the fluids go, i checked everything today and its trans and oil and power steering are all full. Unless there could be something else wrong with the fluids? But everything is full on all the dipsticks.

Noises after you shut off the car? For 5 or 10 seconds? Do you know how many times a missing PCV o-ring has been mistaken for a belt or pulley problem?
If the sound continues after shutdown (even if different), you have a vacuum leak. That'* the manifold 'leaking down'.

Have you considered your radiator cooling fans? They sometimes will run after shut down. Also, if you happen to have load leveling, that compressor is over near the washer reservoir. Mine sometimes runs after I shut it down.

And no I didn't realize the pcv oring is mistaken for a belt or pulley problem and that may very well be my problem as well.

This sound like the problem I've narrowed down here
http://www.bonnevilleclub.com/forum/...er=asc&start=0
I'm putting on a Gatorback belt this weekend so while I have it off should i try to take off the tensioner pulley and grease it? Is there another pulley that I should do the same? I have a 3.8 series one.
p.*. willwren, sorry about bumping the old thread.

by the way, my first problem was why it did it when applying the brakes but now after paying attention, it isn't just when applying the brakes but rather when i'm braking and the rpm'* go below 1000. It also gets worse as i turn right but not when I turn left. :?:

Whatever is making the noise appears to be affected when it (the problem) is forced forward (braking, in park on a downhill, reverse(?)).

Still wondering if anybody knows the torque specs for my belt tensioner. If anybody knows I'd appreciate the info.
Here is what i wrote in another thread but it is better suited here.
I put a new Gatorback belt on and that didn't cure it. I put in a new pcv and that did nothing but it needed changed anyway. willwren told me that maybe my tensioner is getting weak so I figured i'd check the torque because I know you can't go by feel and when I changed the belt the tensioner felt strong. The car has 180,000 miles but the engine "supposedly" has only 60,000 or 70.000 miles on it.
I read somewhere that another boardmember had a chirping squealing sound and a piece of his starter housing broke off and was inside the housing causing problemes. This is something I'll look into as well because my starter has been acting funny and it'* worth a look to see.
The best way to describe the noise at this point is that when I hit the brakes in lower rpms or turn RIGHT (not left ) in lower rpms it makes this noise but it sounds as it someone is sticking something metal against something metal that is spinning very fast. That'* why I think a chunk inside the starter housing my be a possiblity because it could be a piece getting caught up in the flywheel. The sound is described a few times in this thread. It could be a belt squeal or bearing squeal, but I just can't tell. It sounds like either of those and also neither of those. If that makes any sense.

I decided to try to get a little video of the noise today and we have about 50 degrees and sunny. And every time it gets a little warmer outside the noise disappears!! I couldn't get it to make the sound no matter what i did today. I hit the brakes. tried slamming the brakes. Turned the steering wheel back and forth parked on and incline with the front facing down hill and NOTHING!! GRRR just like before when it gets warm outside it quits doing it. But as soon as it gets back down into the 30'* or lower it does it. What the hell? :?
I did take some video of the drive belt and pulleys and it sounds like the air condition compressor seems pretty loud and when the defrost is on the compressor kicking on and off seems to be loud too. I'll try to upload video of that. But still don't have vid of the chirping/squealing yet. I'll work on that.
