I am not sure that I quite understand the place you are putting the lube at. And also what method are you using to insert it?

The noise I am hunting for over the next couple weeks is a clunk when you move the wheel left and right when the car is not moving.

Default clunk

when you remove the strut bearing dust caps under the hood you will see four exposed
holes around the nuts.
I apply 90w gear lube to these then dip a small screwdriver in white lithium grease
and stir it around in the hole making a slurry. This slurry then works its way down into the strut bearing and presto. No more clunk and smooth steering.
If the clunk still persists its moslikely not the upper bearings.

When the strut bearings needed replacement on the 93 SSE, I'd have described the noise more of a "sproing" than a clunk. Listening to it closely, you could tell that a spring was involved by the sound and vibration as the tension was released from the spring.

Default spring

That spring noise is the bearing giving resistance so the spring slips on its mount.

I had a similar problem with my 93 SSE. Ended up just replacing the bearing since I was getting the breaks and wheel bearing done at the same time. It was nice to have a friend who is a mechanic and his brother work at NAPA so it didn't cost much(part and dinner for 2) I kinda wished I had know about this little trick. Might have fixed my problem.

Good to hear that it has helped with your problem. Keep up updated if it comes back at all cause I am interested to see how well this solution works.
