It went bad for one of 540 reasons.

Your remote starter may have been a MINOR contributing factor due to the 'on' time during remote start.

In the end, I think it'* safe to say it went bad because it went bad.

Yeah my starter blew up after about 9 years and 100,000 miles. No reason as to why it went bad, it had trouble starting the car for a few days then stopped working. Slapped a new one on and its good as new.

You remote starter could be causing it if it cranks the engine for to long after it starts, but most remote starts now don't do that anymore.
