Default SSEi: wants to stay in first gear and not shift

Originally my 1993 ssei car use to take a while to shift. Now it wants to just stay in first and not shift. I doubt i have a bad transmission b/c i just had the seals replace. The mechanic said the tranny was fine unless he just a part changer. Do anybody know what could be the problem. Another problem i have is when i floor the car to the ground, it does move it at all it just graudally pic up speed. what can be the problem

I was bringing a 92 SSE from an inspection/test drive back to it'* owners, and during a very hot summer day (mid 90'*) the tranny wouldn't get out of first.

I kicked the heat on, tried manually shifting the gear shift in and out, and nothing was doing it. Pulled over onto a side street once I got off the freeway (which was conveniently not going faster then 30) and opened up the hood, let her cool down, and after 10 minutes all was back to normal.

Please don't confuse a solenoid with a vacuum modulator.

97 solenoids aren't compatible because it'* not the same transmission. And for a solenoid, maybe we should troubleshoot it before you start tearing your transmission apart.

Vacuum modulators don't prevent a shift.

We need to get a scantool on this car to determine if the shift is even being requested. In the meantime, please use the Techinfo article regarding reading codes on your car. You don't need a scantool to read the codes on a 93.
