Speedo/Trans problem

Speedo/Trans problem
On my 94 SSEi I was having the following problem:
During acceleration the speedo would drop and the trans would hunt for a gear. This happened betwen 1st and 2nd gear and was intermittant. After a few miles trans would go into "limp mode" where I would only have 2nd and 3rd gear.
So... I r eplaced the VSS (2 new ones and tried reinstalling the old one) and now I have no speedo at all and only 1st gear.
Scan tool shows no codes.
PCM? Wiring?
Don't know where to go from here...

Update..
Started car this morning and ran scan tool again. Came up with:
501 vss circuit problem
573 ABS signal
and 1 in History:
502 VSS circuit low (which may have been repaired with new sensor)
Cleared codes and tranny now will go into limp mode and speedo reads spradically. So it seems to be a problem in the VSS harness? How do I start to trace?
Any ideas???
