If your careful, you can remove it and try it without the screen. If it makes things worse, then just replace it.

I was debating on whether or not to take mine out. I didn't want anything bad to get in the engine, but I figure anything small enough to get through the filter would get through the MAF screen anyways. So I took it out. And cleaned some dirt that was right inside too.

It does sound sweet too. Punch the gas and the thing roars! I love it

Now I'm a 'Certified Bonneville Nut!' I thought this day would never come.

Do it, but I have removed two MAF screens and both were damaged even though I tried my hardest not to. If your anything like me, once shes out...she out.

Mine'* out, no ill effects so far. Idle is fine, acceleration is better...
