should i change to synthetic oil or not
if you have any leaks synthetic oil will make it worse. same if it burns any to . if not it will be be ok . i change my oil every three thousand mi if using regular oil or synthetic oil . cheapest thing you can do to make a motor last is change oil .
Changing to Syn oil should really be dependent on the miles on the car and how its been maintained. For ex: you do NOT want to change to syn oil if its at 120,000 miles and leaking. But IF the car has somewhat low miles, and regularly maintained, and you can afford the $$$ that comes with a syn oil change every 3-5000 miles *depending on driving habits* then id say itd be better to switch.
The syn oils tend to last longer, lubricate better, and most claim it will actually make the motors last longer. I personally have not gone back to using regular oil after the first use of Mobil1 syn... but when you drain the oil out of your 25,000 mile engine at 5000 miles and it looks like new Pennzoil 10w30... theres something there to
about with the change you did. Its like going from regular gas to premium, its usually cleaner, makes the engine run better, and its worth *to most* the slightly extra cost.
All in all, its up to you
good luck

Synthetic can stay in your engine for alot longer than dino oil. Lastest research shows no increase in metal ions in most synthetic oil beyond 10,000 miles. ( In layman'* terms that means no wear on parts.) I rely on the oil monitor in my GXP and it shows oil changes needed in the 9000 miles range. 43,000 miles on 4 oil changes (coming up on 5th) and she purrs like a kitten. The extra mileage makes it worth every extra penny it costs.

I have been running Mobil 1 extended life and even after 10,000 miles it comes out looking better than dino oil after 3000 miles. I do change the filter every 5000 miles just because I still use regular filters. In the long run this is more cost effective and in my opinion better for the engine. Just my .02 cents.
I think the idea of synthetic oil causing leaks in older engines is outdated. When synthetic oil first came out, it affected engine seals, resulting in leakage, but they took care of that a long time ago. Does anyone have any recent evidence of synthetic oil causing leaks? Larry
