Sea Foam
 

Hey guys, just picked up a can of sea foam and im gonna get ready to use it within the next couple of days but i was just wondering what the best way of using it is..on the can itself it says u can simply drop it in ur gas tank..but then it also says u can pour it in the main vaccum line and that will work fine but it says only to use 1/3 of the can...why is that? anyone that has any experience with using sea foam can u please tell me the most effective way of using it etc thanks!

There are a few different parts of your car that can be cleaned with it.

IIRC
Fuel system by adding to your tank
Intake tract (air intake) by adding slowly through a vaccum hose. You will probably need to change plugs and apologize to your neighbors for the cloud of smoke.
And oil system, by adding to the oil in the pan. (not sure if I like this one)

so vaccum hose is probably best to go with right?

yeah thats the fastest acting on heavy duty carbon.

Just have someone hold the throttle at about 15-1800 rpms to prevent stalling while sipping about 1/3 of the can into a vacuum line. I don't know about using more, but I don't think it can hurt. I recommend the one coming out of the fuel evap canister. At about 5/8s the can is gone then give it a bit more and have someone let off the throttle and stall the car with it. Let it soak then for about...say 4 hours. Then start the car and take it for a good spirited drive. Don't worry about the smoke, you're going to have a hell of a lot of it, especially when getting on the throttle. Just drive until the smoke is mostly gone. Then if you want to continue cleaning, dump a can in your tank with a full tank of gas and that will clean out the injection system.

Now if you want to know what I recommend, go to your local GM dealer and pick up a can or two of GM Top Engine Cleaner, it has a few more HD cleaning agents in it than Sea Foam.

I just did the seafoam treatment and when I drove it, it didn't seem like anything came out... Should I be worried? :?
(I only let it sit for about 45 minutes before driving it, but the can only suggests 5...)

lol it's a petroleum cleaner designed to eliminate the carbon buildup in your car.

I was just really disappointed when I didn't get any smoke... I'm wondering if my cat's clogged :P

Blast it.... What have I goofed up now...

Over 30 years ago duing one of my first jobs at a gas station, I saw a mechanic place pure water into the secondaries of a Q-jet on a small bock chev (while running) just before doing a tune-up. He had to rev up the engine enough so it wouldn't stall, but I couldn't believe how much white smoke came out of the exhaust during this 10 minute reving. I've spoken to many mechanics ever since and they all can't come close to agreeing whether that was good or back for the motor. Believe it or not, the engine ran smoother after he did this.
