I believe that both na and sc starters will work but there is a significant difference in size between the 2 and I think that the na starter wont fit into the space you have on a sc engine. The sc starter is smaller than the na starter, and of coarse the sc starter is more expensive.

Well, so much for using my parts resources. I pulled the starter from the parts engine this afternoon but I found that housing was broken around one of the bolt holes. I figured that I would just chance the solenoid but found the starter currently on the 93 to have a crack in the housing. So... it was off to the parts store. Here are my findings for the different starters:

The starter on top is from the L27 and the one on the bottom is off of the L67. Other than color, they look the same to me. I couldn't find any part numbers on either so I can't tell if they are replacements or OEM equip.

Here's the L27 on the top and the reman Delco unit on the bottom. As described above, there is a noticable size difference. The reman unit reminds me of a large caliber canon shell. It's pretty cool looking. The reman starter was $172 plus tax.

autozone lists 2 different part numbers for the two motors.

Yea Kenn, that's what I thought too. I did call Napa first and they quoted me over $200 for something and didn't even have it in stock. I already had it out of the car and needed it for work so I got the other. It's a Delco unit with a lifetime warranty though.

The $69 for the one part number you pulled up seems way too low for a starter. It's been a while since I had to change one though.

Randman1, The starter that you purchased is a gear reduced starter... ;)

Top starter is a Direcr drive starter, and the new unit is the gear reduced ;)

The majority of the L67'd used the Gear reduced starter, as well as a lot of the L27 Park Avenues... Other models used the direct drive starters ;)

I'm having the same problem on a 92 SSEi and I went to the parts store in our town, the guy checked the parts numbers and there is two starters but the solenoid is the same on but, the only differance we can find is the SSEi starter is 1.6 KW PERMANENT MAGNET GEAR REDUCTION and the other one is 1.2KW
