Side note...Randy is on his way to my place for FSM's...told him to grab my 95 if he needed a loaner. The 64 million dollar question is...which car will be there when I get home?

Randy they should be servicable to the point that most likely it is full of gunk and stuff and that's keeping it from operating properly. Next to Dan's shop (behind lowes in springfield) is a place that services / repairs starters and alternators.

yes it is and the par number is 2465116 is the number it cost 69 bucks
Kenn, Just had to ask... What years and models does that starter cross over to in the Bonneville line?

I'm going to have to guess and say that that would be a Direct drive starter due to the price as the Gear reduced units are very expensive... ;)
do u want part numbers for starters and years for the bonnie??

87-91 246-5050 ALL ENGINES

92-93 2465097 S/C
2465077 N/A

94-95 2465077 S/C & N/A

96-99 2465116 N/A
246-5109 S/C

this is weird i pulled every starter i had in stock and compared them and they are different but only by a lil bit what is really weird is the 92-93 starters it looks like gm didnt know what to do with themselves on these so they kept it through 95 and then went gear reduction in 96 but some 95 and 94 models have the gear reduction :? go figure the only thing that makes sense is the 87-91 good ole LN3 8)

Thats what I thought you'd find....A Mass ball of confusion... Its funny tho, the Park Avenues used the Gear reduced starters as well but the Le Sabres used the direct drive... Lost here...LMAO

Probably because they didn't think about it. They probably just said.."hey this one will work" and put it on.

Bump...

Has anyone figured this out yet?

I was thumbing through the service manual for the 95, and there are indeed 2 diffrent starters....

But it says both have the same amount of starting power... In otherwords the Gear reduced will be as strong as the Direct Drive, but in a smaller package... The service manual even shows a detail of parts in the starter...

If anyone has ever taken apart a power screwdriver, the gear reduced starter works in much the same manner.... Just smaller..
