Default rolling forwards when in reverse

hey all.. lately when i go to park and i put the car in reverse either it doesnt move unless i really put my foot on it.. or if i am parking on a hill (downward sloping) the car rolls forwards when i put it in reverse... this has resulted in several bumped cars.. but more importantly.. what going on?? any thoughts are appreciated.. thanks.

Check your trans fluid and condition, this sounds like you're a qt or two low.

Check that and come back with the results, and we can go from there.

Nate..please see this post from earlier today. Here you tell someone that rolling on a hill w/o a brake is normal.

If you release the brakes and are not using the throttle, the torque converter is may not be spinning fast enough to hold the car on a good incline.

Try holding the brake lightly with your left foot and adding a little throttle in these situations and letting up the brake as the car holds itself and begins to move in reverse.

If you are facing DOWN the hill and you put it in reverse, you will roll forward, if you don't have your foot on the brake light Bill said.

this seems pretty obvious...every car i have ever been in does this....its just that there is no torque being put on the wheels and we are talking about a 3500+ lb car...it even says what to do in my DMV drivers handbook.yeah just hold the brake apply the throttle, when you feel it pull, release the brake and so fourth..simple

Let'* stick with the situation at hand.

Car rolls forward when facing downhill and in reverse w/o any throttle.

Re-read the post correctly dumbass....

lately when i go to park and i put the car in reverse either it doesnt move unless i really put my foot on it
Which would indicate a low fluid situation, trust me I would know....I had the same issue this weekend when I thought I had enough ATF in my trans after the fluid change.

or if i am parking on a hill (downward sloping) the car rolls forwards when i put it in reverse...
Yes, that is common sense and is the same answer for what I posted in that other thread.

If you're on level ground, and you put it in reverse, you have to give it a lot of gas to get it to move?

Either way, check the fluiid, often over looked, and cheap insurance. I dunno about you, but i'd much rather spend a few bux on a qt of trans fluid vs a few grand on a trans rebuild
