I took car into shop because I took u guys advise. i didn't want to screw up my crankshaft tryin to get that key out. The shop guy called me and adv me his cert mech tried for 45min to get that thing out and couldn't. He didnt want to put a torch on it because it would melt the seals & gaskets and the frame cross member won't allow enough clearance to get a drill in. The shop had a 93 SSEi there getting an engine so he was able to look on old engine to get a better idea on what has to happen to really to get to the crankshaft key. He said if he takes off the timing cover, I think he said, then he could get another 3/4" or so into it but still no guarantee. Labor for that is abt the same as an oil pump approx 7hrs at a lbor cost of like $72pr hr. If that doesnt work and the engine has to come out abt 13hrs. Do these #'* sound right and what would you do? I have the weekend to make up my mind.

No I haven't. Other than the external stuff that I upgrade, replace, etc. Although I feel I'm pretty stock with tools and don't mind buying tools. I mean I've got the torque wrnchs, the c clamps, the multimeters, offset guage, jack stands. I'm missing air tools, torches, experience, a motor puller and garage. Why do u ask :?:

Local shop with certified guys. I was very picky about who tried this job. I may be mistaking the the timing chain cover. He said something maybe it was the crankshaft cover. He said he would have to drop the trans out to do it, I think :?
I had my timing chain cover replaced just before I blew the lower end (coolant in the crank) the dealerships quoted me $400-500 to do the work, I found a local shop with a great reputation who did it for $300. Shop around if you can. As for an engine, I just found a 95' series I supercharged w/o the supercharger w /63K for $750. Prices went all the way up to $1500 for used engines. As for a rebuilt, it depends on who did the work (my small local guy told me to beware) but he said it would be around $2500 installed. And no, they did not pull the engine to get at the timing chain cover. Good Luck

Ok they got the key out after taking off the timing cover and gear. I had them change the timing belt, gear and water pump since it was already tore down. They replaced the seals chgd oil and flushed antifreeze. Total was ($829). But guess what the car still had that heavy missing problem. The tech told may I hve a small exhaust leak where the long pipe meets the engine. Keep in mind I'm a lil pissed bec thats what started this whole thing. Code indivcated crank sensor etc. So I drop car off to my regular guy on Fri who I feel more confortable with but h was oot last week. He diagosed it with a bad ignition module and 1 bad coil. He doesnt like aftermarket modules for GM so I shelled out the $265 for AC Delco and I already had coils from Auotzone in basement. So this was an addtl $308 from the $829.00 Car was runnin better but still a lil stutter so I chngd my plugs out yesterday thinkin that that ignition prob messed up my plugs. I went back to Delco plats because thats all NAPA had and I didnt feel like waitn for an order. Car runs pretty strong now I just have a slight stutter from like 30mph to 50 or 55mph. Any ideas? Im gonna be drivin car 1200miles to Florida on Aug 31 so I need to make sure I'm good. :?
