it helps if you remove the strut bar. Do not do that from the strut bolts, instead from the bolts that are in the bar.

If the wrench handle is pointing up when the socket is on the plug, push it towards the driver side to loosen.

I was just going to suggest this. If the handle is pointing towards the drivers side, push down on the handle, if it'* pointing to the passenger side, pull the handle up. to loosen
