I have a problem with my bonneville, the catayltic converter was glowing red hot last night and the car has been missing, Is the converter probably bad????

Sounds like a shot, what year is your car? ZZ performance has a after market cat for about $70

Be wary of the ZZP converter. Meaning check the inlet/outlet size. They tend to specialize in W bodies and you'll want to ensure it'* the proper one. $70 is a good deal though. I've found a couple magnaflow'* (Pre 2000 model year only cars) on ebay for about $70 shipped. If your car is 2000 or newer, we'll need to find the name of the converter that will work up to the spec your pcm requires. It'* posted ...I happen to forget the name though.

If you are dumping raw fuel through the exhaust, you're cat will glow red. I would check on the misfire condition first, then replace the cat.

Yeah, I got it lol. But realistically sounds like he'* running seriously rich or lack of spark in one or more cylinders.

This does kinda sond like a converter problem... But i would not sasy its whats causing your misfire. Like the others said my guess would be the misfire lead to the converter. I would get this looked at. If the converter infact is "melting" from being too hot by misfire you would notice alot of backpressure and sluggish driving. It does take alot to melt a catalyt though.... Its meant to be hot in there not only does it get the heat of exahust but it does infact get warmer as the redox reactions take place. (i work for a company who coats the cataylst ). I wold look at a high flow cat anyways
