Question about flowmaster
I took my Bonnie to a shop here that sells and installs flowmasters and the guy told me he could do the job for about $180.00 but advised me not to do it because he says for some reason the flowmasters on the Bonnies do not sound good. He told me he had done 3 Bonnies with the same results and after that he began to advise Bonnie customers he could do the job, but he has tried to steer them away from it. Has anyone else had this happen to them?, and are there some negative feed back to installing Flowmasters on our cars. Also went to gut my airbox Saturday only to find out some one had beaten me to it. Guess I have to change my signature!

You can't really gut a 94 airbox if it'* the same as my 93. You can run ducts to it for a ram air effect.
Want clips of flowmasters on a 1994 Se? I can upload some to my website for you later tonight.

AAAAhhhhhh!! So that explains why my airbox did not look quite like the pictures I saw in the techinfo thread I used. I think I will leave it as it is. I saw the pictures of the ram jet effect. Good idea, but I don't think I will try it. Thanks. Still waiting for my MSD coils. Ordered last week from Avanced Auto. Checked today and was told MSD says they were back ordered and they were scheduled to be shipped tommorow. Have appointment to get windows tinted in 2 days. I think I will pass on the flowmaster for now and put that cash into the paint job I plan on getting in a couple months. I would like to hear if there are any more people out there that have had negative results with flowmasters. I am trying to decide if I would want to chance putting the money into the installation at a later date. Thanks guys. Oh yeah, please upload those clips to your website and I will take a listen to them.

The demand for MSD coils is higher now that Chevy is running the 3800 in the W bodies. MSD has gone on backorder already (twice last year that I know of).
The Flowmaster will vary in sound from Bonneville to Bonneville. Probably more dependent on whether or not you have a resonator, and what type of Cat you're running. My exhaust guy didn't mention the difference in sound when selecting my muffler, but rather flow rates and end performance. The Magnaflow bench flows and dyno'* about 2% higher. Neglible difference.
I know Jim'* Magnaflow sounded different than others I've heard. It may be due to the outlet configuration (he had 2 parallels? Or one with dual tips?). The point is that there are alot of other factors that will affect the sound a particular muffler makes.

Flowmaster is supposed to be the loudest in general (not always, depending on other variables), and Magnaflow in the middle. Dynomax is supposed to be the quietest, but the most restrictive of the three, with a raspy note.

Actually I read an article some time back saying that Flowmaster is a little misleading by their name. The article said flat out that most flowmasters actually flow less than their equivalent competition. Trying to refind the article I stumbled across this:
http://www.svtoa.org/articles_006.htm
Which shows, with numbers, what the previous article (unrelated webpage) had said.

I'd heard that myself, and my exhaust guy backed it up (with numbers off the top of his head). That'* why I went Magnaflow. That page says the Flowmaster is pretty much crap. I'd like to see a comparison with the Magnaflow to see where it falls. Magnaflow, Dynomax, and Flowmaster.....that would be a good comparison for our preferences.
Thanks, Doc.
