Default Power Steering Problem

The owner of the 98 SSEi I might buy claims that the only problem with the car (other than it having 180k on it) is the power steering (says it works but it needs to be fixed. He'* currently driving it). I haven't looked at the car yet, that'* Tuesday at 5. I'm just wondering if there'* any common failure on these. Would it more likely be the pump or the rack or...? The car is "$1500 firm," lowered from $2000 then $1800. Blue book was like $3500 or something with those miles. Also if there are any other specific things I should look out for (common failures), I'd love to hear it since I didn't get much of a response in General Chat.

Thanks!

It would be nice to know WHAT about the power steering.

Noise? Works? Doesn't? Jerky? Leaks?

There are no common problems. Get more details. Maybe if you're lucky it'* only the belt tensioner.

The pump can go, as well as the rack, it'* not common at all though. Most common thing would probably be a leaking hose going to the motor. After the hose starts leaking, the fluid level gets low and one needs to reach behind the alternator to check the level.
